Site Changes

Sarah is taking call again tonight, which means I’m sitting in the apartment alone with my MT templates–a very dangerous combination. :) You’ll certainly notice a bunch of changes here. Some of it is stuff that I’ve been cooking up for a little while now and some of it is stuff that I’ve done in the last 24 hours. In no particular order:

# I’ve set up Mark’s MT Macros plugin, which not only automatically appends <acronym> tags to predefined acronyms (such as HTML or NJIT), but also converts those cute smiley faces. (I double-checked with Mark to make sure that taking the smilies was copasetic–it was). I’ll work on getting this set up for comments soon, too.
# Set up Brad Choate’s MT Textile plugin, which does nice conversions in my blogs so I don’t have to expressly write out the HTML for things like the em dash entity or bulleted lists.
# Deprecated the JavaScript Dynamic Curly Quotes. That kinda sucked because I was so excited about getting that to work–MT Textile does it for me now, though.
# Migrated the WeatherBox graphics to this site rather than requesting them from another site (I know, I should probably be clubbed for doing that in the first place).
# Changed the font a bit. It should be somewhat easier to read now. At least, I think so. ;-)
# Jai cleaned up my banner graphic. Thanks, Jai!
# Minor markup and stylesheet tweaks.

In other news, in case you couldn’t tell, the stress has throttled back a bit from school. I still owe some homework and will take a final on Monday, and we still need to do a production install for the senior project, but there’s far less pressure than there was before I finished my Management paper (35 pages), the senior project documentation (101 pages), and our final presentation.

Sarah and I also decided to take a cruise to Bermuda for our anniversary. I can’t wait to get out there with some good books and just…relax.

also i found your blog from here:
    http://www.brainoff.com/geoblog/

    isn’t that weird?

No1son, weird about the word, or weird that you found this blog? :)
I forget where I read it (apparently not here), but I knew that the word has some folklore around it. I only ended up using because a coworker of mine—a baby boomer—uses it at least once a day. It sorta stuck.

By the way, I checked out your site. Congrats on the iBook. I’m jealous. ;-)

Ken… it would be kind to append your list with th jaggy killing :)
I want to set up those macros someday too, but I didn’t have the time when I loked at the plug in to understand it very well, so I skipped it… Was it easy?

Also, ken, about the Macros- I think that your Sanitize plug-in is taking the Macros out of the comments. I put the smiley face sign in my last comment, but it didn’t show up- you know the one “:r)” without the “r” in the middle- just a heads up. I figured you’d figure it out, but just in case it slipped by when you try and set up macro comments… ;)

    K,

Congrats on finishing the majority of your school work. DLSI is awesome…you (and your wife)deserve the R&R…enjoy.

    Jai,

re: jaggy killing, I’m sorry…duly noted.

re: smiley killing, you’re right. Sanitize was killing the <img> tags. I reinstated them, but am looking for a way to restrict them to the kennsarah.net domain—I don’t want to someday accost visitors with the type of content I get from the spam in my Hotmail box because I was careless. :-O

  7. Jai says:

Ah… I see. That does make alot of sense… about the hotmail [puts on best *S*hrek voice] crap mail…

hmm… I thought you might like this site’s current Mozzila Article…

    -Me testing the macros for coolness sake – :P :) ;) :D :/ :( :|

    Gotta love that…

  8. Jai says:

“Um… yeah… I’m gonna have to have you come in on Saaatturday…”

… Sometimes my stupidity amazes even me …

Hmmm… that means that If i use stuf like ^superscript^ type tags they should work… did you check your santitize to make sure all the textile type tages work? I’m just making stuff up to try and validat my ~stupidity~ :O ;)

  9. Jai says:

Looks to me like you didn’t check your sanitize spec- here’s the textile line for it so you don’t have to check figure it out:

em, strong, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, ol, ul, li, cite, del, ins, sup, sub, p, u, acronym, blockquote,

  10. Ken says:

Actually, I’m thinking of going plain-text on the comments. There’s no reason for someone to comment on this site and include headings or citations. If they do, they can write their own blogs and trackback here. :-P

  11. Jai says:

    Hey, it’s your blog :)
How ’bout… plain text with bold, italic, href, and underline… maybe underline…

I hope to see you tonight!

    later-
