Theoblogical Community, et al

I discovered TheoBlogical today (via Dave Winer).

Dale Lature: The Conversations the Churches Need. Meanwhile, conversations are conspicuously absent on Church sites, Denominational sites, and almost any kind of Church related site. Where forums are offered, they are not actively linked and promoted and encouraged. Churches say that they emphasize laity and then betray this philosophy by non-verbal, contextual clues such as putting the pulpit at the center—putting the sermon at the highest point of emphasis, publishing the articles of staff to the exclusion of stories of experiences and opinions of the laity. The Websites of Churches emphasize brochure stuff like Worship Service times, pictures of the staff, directions to the Church, and some newsletters (although the Web version is often more than a month behind the version of the Monthly newsletter already in the hands of members).

The Thunderbird project is progressing nicely, providing builds for Linux and Mac OS X this weekend. I can’t wait ’til I can get rid of Outlook Express!

20 pages into this paper and a few more to go…:)

on linux and mac os x (though, on mac os x its a bit harder), you can get rid of oputlook easily … using
    evolution, from ximian.

you might be able to get it running on windows using cygwin. I’ve gotten most of gnome1.x working on top of cygwin with enlightenment as the window manager … so, i’d imagine its possible to get evolution working. If you try, i’d like ot hear how it goes. ;-)
Evolution is one of the best mail apps i have ever used. Beautiful interface, easy to setup and use. and provides everything i expect in a mail client/pim software.

Hey K, what do you think would be a good thing to propose (blog-wise) to our churches website? I’m interested in what you think would enhance the community experience. Right now, it’s just a pretty brochure for the church- which is ok. But I think expanding the community concept of church on the web may be very benificial. Since I am now the church’s point man for the website, I can take a proposal to Mr. Tiel about these matters.

    Let me know.
Jode, Tom, Darin, Krissy, Jenny, Sarah, anybody who reads this post from church, put your 2 cents in.

Excellent find Kenny…. This guy seems to wrestling with what we are looking for. Too much to consume at this point.

By the way - isn’t there this thing going on between Mark P. and Dave W.? Aren’t they like some arch-rival thing? I can’t figure it out.

To answer Jai - I don’t think many people get the blog thing yet. I think it would work if we found some ways to tweek it so they could understand how to use it and to keep it fresh.

    “It’s the content stupid!”
