I’m just now looking at kennsarah.net via the Solaris stations here at NJIT (I’m killing time until I can talk to some guy about class registration–of course). These terminals only support Netscape Navigator 4.76. Not suprisingly, the site is near-unusable. I guess I’ll be looking for some tips from Mark to fix it.
Stinkin’ Netscape. I’d love to just totally ignore this browser as it is finally becoming totally obsolete on the web. Thing is, though, if NJ’s “Most Wired University” is still running it, it makes me wonder what other public institutions still are, too.
Netscape is the son of Mordor…
Netscape WAS good until it came across some weird ring….then it was all downhill from there….I just heard a weird voice say “Precious….”
Netscape 4.78 is the standard browser at Boeing. I don’t use it, though, because I’ve installed Phoenix. Gecko is … Preciousss
CCM is still using Netscrape, too. Looking at my blog stats, I see two people who read mine are using Netscrape, too, and that bugs me… I wonder how mine looks. Better to not think about it…
Dont worry so much, anyone who is still using Netscape is so far behind the times that they probably believe things like Mullets, Parachute Pants and Pearl Jam (sorry Chris) are still in style. Dont worry about them, just feel sorry for them. 8)
Thanks guys for letting me know who was using what browser…kinda bolsers my case to investigate a redesign. Sorry, Mike, but the fact is, between County College and Boeing, that’s some 200,000 users plus (no exaggeration: Boeing HQ employs 188,000 according to MDDI) that don’t have any better way to get to my site.
Of course, doesn’t it matter which version of Netscape you’re running? I mean, at NJIT, you said you were using 4.x… that’s pretty old. I’d imagine most places are way ahead of that; not to mention, no one seriously uses the web for blogwatching in a school library, do they?

Pearl Jam still rocks you bastard!
The newest version of netscape is fantastic…i wish it were the standard. Its much better than ie.
And Pearl Jam used to rock…
I’m okay with Mozilla, but much happier with Phoenix. I’d suggest you give it a shot, Darren.
As far as PJ is concerned, well, perhaps a brief timeline is in order:
Releases Ten: PJ shocks the world with a new sound that rocks.
Releases vs.: PJ proves that, yes, indeed, they still rock.
Releases Vitology: PJ shows that they rock, but they are willing to experiment with a sound that sucks.
(PJ remains reclusive for a decade, releasing albums that few but the die-hard ever really know about. During this time they may suck or they may rock, but we don’t know.)
Releases Riot Act: PJ shows that yes, they do actually still rock, but in an introspective post-teenager kind of way.
I used to want to be Eddie Vedder…
And then something unexpected happened…
I GREW UP.
Netscape 4 is the standard in most colleges in New York City. I don’t know know if this is the case before 1996. I know that after 1996, most colleges I visit here in NYC uses either MSIE, Netscape or both. I’ve been using Netscape since 1996, when I had my first computer. I’ve upgraded from Netscape 4.0 to 4.78 to 6.0 to 6.23 to 7.0 to now 7.02. Still most schools use 4.78 or older versions of course.
